It's Official...

Well, it's started. Meetings this week, four days next week. It is on and popping. I will teach a reading course and a student teaching course, as well as coordinate an online reading program. This should be an exciting semester. When not planning and teaching, I will be losing weight. Yep, I want to lose 20 lbs between now and December 24. Hopefully, I'll reach my goal. There are some cute fall clothes hitting the stores with my name on them!

I'm glad to hear from former students who are teaching out of state: Lanell is in Brooklyn, NY, Carlos is in Atlanta,GA and Jill is in Tampa, FL. They are really excited about their new positions, and I'll have places to hang out when I go to visit those cities.

Speaking of cities, these are the conferences where I will be presenting. The National Black Child Development Institute in Chicago in October. The National Council of Teachers of English in New York City in November. There might be a few along the way, will keep y'all posted.

Time for School to Start!!!

This time of the year makes me nostalgic. Everywhere people are preparing to go to college, and guess what? I want to go also! Sure I've done it enough times to earn four degrees: BS Georgia Southern, Statesboro, GA, MS Georgia State, Atlanta, GA, MAT Oakland University, Rochester, MI and Ph.D. Oakland University.

I just want to enjoy that feeling once again...maybe not the going to classes, and doing the work. I think it's the decorating the dorm room! I was at Ikea the other day and it clicked, that's it, I just want to fix up a dorm room. Hmmm, I could clean up my office and fix it up while pretending it's a dorm room! I just might do that!

It will wear off when I hit campus in Sept. and see all the freshmen on campus. Since most of the classes I teach are grad classes, I miss that new student phenomenon.

Well, just a few weeks and we are back to the halls of learning.

A Girl Like Me Featurette

This is one of the most powerful messages to parents, educators, and communities about the socialization of young children.
